It seems that tennis, like football and basketball, is making news off the court because of insensitive and ignorant jerks.
This latest incident has Russian tennis chief and International Olympic Committee member Samil Tarpischev calling Venus and Serena Williams "The Williams Brothers" and "Scary to look at."
He has been universally condemned for these racist and sexist comments by the WTA, USTA, IOC and just about everyone else.
Incredibly, he doesn't understand the outcry against his bullying by saying, "I regret that this joke has garnered so much attention," and "I don't think this incident deserves so much fuss."
Apparently Tarpischev has been living under a rock by not understanding that the media and sports cultures are mad as hell and not going to take it anymore when it comes to women being abused by powerful men.
Moreover, where has he been the last 40 years or so, as women in sports and society have embraced fitness
and the athletic Williams Sisters are a paradigm of both beauty and femininity.
