Marcella Kanes and Arielle Rokhsar helped Wheatley win its first match of the year with a third doubles win on Monday.


The high school season in Nassau County got underway on Monday afternoon, and the Wheatley Wildcats got its season off on the right foot as it went on the road to play Garden City.

Wheatley notched a 5-2 victory, picking up wins from all three of its singles players as Kaya Amin, Kavina Amin and Hailey Lessen won at first, second and third singles, respectively.


The clinching match came from third doubles, as Marcella Kanes and Arielle Rokhsar won 6-4, 6-2 over Dami Dawodu and Athena Weisenburger to seal the Wheatley victory.

Caroline Lee clinched Syosset’s win over Manhasset with a 7-5, 6-1 triumph over Alexis Morton.

Glen Cove 6, Baldwin 1

In a three-set match, Sangimoh Davlatshoev outlasted Kayla McKenzie 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(7) to lead Glen Cove.

Roslyn 4, Jericho 3

At first doubles, Sara Lok and Sophia Remnek won 6-1, 6-4 as Roslyn edged Jericho 4-3.

Great Neck North 5, Hewlett 2

Anushka and Sachita Gupta came back from a set down to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 at third doubles and clinch Great Neck North’s first win of the season.

Plainedge 4, Carey 3

Jenna Cosenza hung on to beat Gianna Porcasi 7-6(3), 2-6, 7-6(4) to lead Plainedge.
