Sofia Kenin notched one of the biggest victories of her young career as the American pushed the United States into the 2020 World Group Draw of the Fed Cup at the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, Texas on Sunday.

Kenin defeated Timea Bacskinsky 6-3, 7-6(4) in the fourth rubber of the World Group playoff to clinch the American’s victory. The win came on the heels of Sloane Stephens’ 6-3, 6-2 win over Viktorija Golubic earlier in the day.

“I’m just really happy, and I really left it all out there on the court,” said Kenin. “Sloane just said, ‘You know what? Just fight. Leave it all out on the court.”

The United States were the Fed Cup champions in 2017, and are now 9-0 all-time against Switzerland.

“Just to get back in the World Group is important,” said Stephens. “We want to be competing, obviously, for another fed Cup title.”
