Long Island’s Noah Rubin got his 2018 season off to the right start by claiming his third ATP Challenger Tour title this past weekend. Rubin took out fellow American Taylor Fritz 7-5, 6-4 to win the Internationaux BNP Paribas Challenger in Noumea, New Caledonia.
Rubin, whose 2017 season was hampered by injuries, couldn’t have asked for a better start to his 2018 campaign. He dropped just one set on his way to the title in Noumea, culminating with his straight-sets win over the 92nd ranked Fritz.
“Just want to thank the fans from New Caledonia on the tremendous support,” Rubin tweeted. “Even though I am not French, it was a Davis Cup atmosphere. I loved playing here and I am excited for the rest of 2018.”
The win catapults Rubin into a career-high ranking of No. 162 in the world.
