Long Island High School Recap: Monday, April 8

New Hyde Park won its third straight match to begin the season as it edged out a 4-3 victory against Division on Monday.

Despite having to forfeit two singles matches because of attendance problems, Division gave New Hyde Park all it could handle. It won first, third and fourth doubles, and the match would boil down to the second doubles contest.

Sahil Gandhu and Evan Kreth came back to win 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 at the second doubles flight to clinch the New Hyde Park victory.

Cold Spring Harbor won yet another 4-3 match on Monday, this time defeating Jericho 4-3 in a Conference I showdown. This match came down to the first singles court as Griffin Schlesinger and Ajer Sher battled for three competitive sets. In the end, Schlesinger clinched the Cold Spring Harbor victory with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 win.

Plainview JFK notched a 4-3 victory of its own on Monday as Sean Cohen and Sam Weissman sealed the team victory with a 6-4, 6-4 win at second doubles.

In a key Conference I matchup, Roslyn remained undefeated with a 5-2 win over Syosset. The Bulldogs won all four doubles flights, including a 1-6, 6-4, 7-6(6) comeback victory by Owen Simon and Sam Levine over Connor Chen and Kourosh Moghaddassi at fourth doubles to lead the way. 

Herricks won its second straight match with a 6-1 triumph over Bethpage. Aaron Kalani and Hubert Zhov won 5-7, 6-2, 7-6(6) at fourth doubles to lead Herricks to the victory.

The Massapequa Chiefs remained unbeaten on the season with a 6-1 win over Farmingdale. Tyler Kutner and Vincent Manzi won their first doubles match in straight sets over Brenden Murphy and Kevin Jones to lead Massapequa to a 4-0 start to the season.

Trailing just behind Massapequa in Conference II-B is South Side, who moved to 3-1 on the year with a 6-1 win versus Mepham. Russ Scala came back to win 2-6, 7-6, 10-8 at second singles, while Cole Birk and Matt Bo won a back-and-forth 6-2, 1-6, 6-0 match at third doubles, to lead the Cyclones to the victory.

Aidan Sumrall won 6-0, 6-1 over Richard Abreu at third singles to lead West Hempstead to a 5-2 victory over Freeport.

Port Washington took three of the four doubles flights as it edged Hewlett 4-3. Zachary Gruber and Benjamin Joory came back to win 2-6, 7-6(6), 6-1 over Laurent Dorvilier and Benjamin Pincus at first doubles to lead the way.

In other scores from across Nassau County on Monday, Manhasset defeated Friends Academy 7-0, Wheatley beat Bellmore JFK 7-0, Valley Stream South won 6-1 over Carey/Sewanhaka and Plainedge defeated MacArthur 6-1.
