Long Island High School Recap: Wednesday, April 17

Spring break is almost upon us and that means a break in the high school tennis action over the next week, but there were still some matches to be played before the break begins.

On Wednesday, Hicksville notched a 5-2 victory over Wantagh. Hicksville got wins in three doubles flights to anchor the victory, including a 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-3 comeback victory by Ani Chittabaathini and Navpreet Singh at third doubles.

In Conference I action, Plainview JFK edged Port Washington 4-3 in a match that came down to the wire. The fourth doubles duo of Ethan Bloom and Tyler Burd won 6-2, 6-3 over Mitch Klee and Ryan Klein to clinch the win for the Hawks.

Also in Conference I, Roslyn continued its undefeated season with a 6-1 triumph over Great Neck North. The Bulldogs were led by Dion Park and Jacob Stein, who hung on to win 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 at first doubles.

Massapequa remained undefeated in 2019 as well on Wednesday as the Chiefs got past Oceanside 4-3 in a tight Conference II-B match in Nassau County. Anthony Guerriere beat Justin Lawrence 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-3 at third singles to help seal the win.

The Rebels of Great Neck South earned wins in all four doubles flights, including a thrilling 3-6, 6-2, 7-6(5) victory by Lance Gandras and John Xie at fourth doubles to clinch the 4-3 team victory over Manhasset. Great Neck South has now won six straight matches to improve to 6-1.

Deland Chen and Kerkens Pierre defeated Denny Arevalo and David Zavele 6-2, 6-4 at first doubles to clinch a 4-3 win for West Hempstead over Hempstead.

Carle Place defeated Bethpage 7-0, led by a 6-2, 6-4 victory by Thomas Thoven and Nicholas Pascarella at third doubles.
