The playoffs in Nassau County got underway on Tuesday afternoon, with two play-in matches plus a few opening round contests.
Lynbrook, Herricks Win Play-In Games
Herricks defeated Valley Stream North 6-1 to move into an opening round matchup against the Roslyn Bulldogs. Varun Thopcherneni came back to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 at second singles to anchor his team’s win.
For Lynbrook, the Owls won all three singles flights, and the third doubles duo of Liam Schorr & Sam Lehman notched a 6-4, 7-6(2) win, to put Lynbrook into a showdown with the top-seeded Syosset Braves.
Nassau Quarterfinals Almost Set
Six of the eight quarterfinalists were established on Tuesday. Great Neck South, the Conference IIA champions, edged Hewlett 4-3, in a match decided by doubles play. While the Rebels dropped the three singles flights, it won all four doubles matches, including a 6-3, 6-1 second doubles victory from Lance Grandis & John Xie.
For a spot in the semifinals, Great Neck South will meet the winner of Syosset and Lynbrook.
The Port Washington Vikings booked its spot in the final eight by downing Manhasset 5-2. The fourth doubles duo of Will Anderson & Dylan Albanese clinched the win with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Port Washington will host Cold Spring Harbor who won 7-0 over Mepham on Tuesday. Ted Packert led the way for his team by winning 6-1, 6-1 at third singles.
Jason Nejat posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory at third singles to lead Great Neck North to a 7-0 win over Calhoun to secure its spot in the quarterfinals where it will meet Friends Academy, who won 5-2 against Jericho. Friends Academy took all three singles flights including Alistair Wright’s 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 at second singles.
Plainview ousted Conference IIB champions Massapequa 7-0 to advance to the quarterfinals. Ryan Menzildjian & Brandon Bretan held on to win 6-2, 4-6, 10-4 at fourth doubles to lead the way. Plainview now awaits the winner of Roslyn and Herricks.
Suffolk Regular Season Nearing End
The Suffolk County regular season moved one step closer to completion on Tuesday. Below are scores from Tuesday’s action:
Commack 7, Elwood-John Glenn 0
Krish Dayal won 6-1, 6-2 at fourth singles to lead Commack to the shutout win and maintain its undefeated season.
Harborfields 4, Hills West 3
Cole Belt & Nate Pelka secured a 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-4 win at third doubles to help Harborfields edge Hills West.
Hills East 6, Northport 1
Dylan D’Agate fought back to win 5-7, 6-3, 11-9 at second singles to guide Hills East.
