Dix Hills native Lea Man powered into the third-round of the U.S. Open Girls on Tuesday, rattling off the final eight games of the match to beat Slovakia’s Lenka Stara 7-5, 6-0 on Grandstand.
The 16th seed got her key breakthrough at 5-5 in the opening set, when she broke Stara to take a 6-5 lead.
After Stara took a medical timeout before the 12th game, Ma calmly held serve to win the opening set in 48 minutes.
She carried that momentum into the second set, breaking to start and never looking back. Ma needed just 18 minutes to run through the set and book her spot in the final 16. She will take on third-seed Xiyu Wang of China next.
