Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that some low-risk business and recreational activities, including tennis, will be allowed to return throughout the state of New York beginning this Friday, May 15.

During his daily briefing held in Rochester, Cuomo said:

“We start a new chapter today in many ways. It’s an exciting new phase. We are all anxious to get back to work. We want to do it smartly. We want to do it intelligently. But we want to do it.”

The state had set seven different metrics that each region needed to reach before re-opening, with three of those regions, primarily upstate, having reached those metrics already.  The state will continue to open on a region-to-region basis, but some low-risk businesses and recreational activities such as tennis will have their restrictions relaxed starting Friday.

“We’re now on the other side of the mountain,” Cuomo said. “Next step: How do we reopen, how do we reopen intelligently and how do we reopen without taking a step back.”
