Scarsdale’s Nikolay Sahakyan and Jason Shuler won the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) doubles title on Saturday, defeating the defending champions from Mamaroneck, Charlie Levinson and Connor Aylett, 6-3, 6-7, 6-4.

Sahakyan and Shuler had several match points in the second set tiebreaker before Levinson and Aylett rallied to win the set and force a deciding third. But the Scarsdale pair build a quick 3-0 lead in the third set, and this time would not let the lead slip away.

“After we blew those match points we were kind of out of it, but the third set is a brand new set, a brand new match,” said Sahakyan. “We just had to come out as we did in the first set, stay aggressive and keep up our style of play.”

In the third-place match, Dean Vlassis and Ben Vlassis of the Christian Brothers Academy defeated Roslyn’s Mikey Weitz and Adrian Tsui 6-1, 6-1.

The Syosset pair of Peter Bukary and Brian Gao reached the finals of the consolation bracket, but fell to Noah Sayoc and Declan Watson of Orchard Park on Saturday.
