American Andy Roddick defeated his fellow countryman, James Blake, in the second round of the BNP Paribas Open at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in California, 6-3, 7-5. Roddick advances on to the third round at Indian Wells where he will face another fellow America, John Isner, who advanced with a 6-3, 7-6 (2) win over Brazilian Ricardo Mello.

Also advancing on the men’s side were Tomas Berdych, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer who overcame Igor Andreev, 7-5, 7-6 (4).

On the women's side, Kim Clijsters of Belgium defeated Italian Sara Errani and Serbian Jelena Jankovic of Serbia moved on with a win over Julia Goerges 6-2, 6-4, as did others moving on to the third round, Francesca Schiavone, Ana Ivanovic and Marion Bartoli.
