A team representing Carefree Racquet Club of Merrick was the big winner at the First Annual Corporate Tennis Challenge Fundraiser held by USTA Eastern Long Island and the United Way of Long Island. Carefree was the overall team winner, taking home the title of Long Island Corporate Tennis Champion at the event, which was hosted by the Port Washington Tennis Academy. Carefree’s doubles players also won the Women’s 6.0, Mixed 6.0, Men’s 6.0 and Mixed 8.0 competitions.

The event raised money to provide rehabilitative and recreational tennis programs for returning military veterans and their families. All profits went to the United Way of Long Island’s Military Family Assistance Project, which supports programs that serve Long Island military, reservist and National Guard personnel active in Operation Enduring Freedom and/or Operation Iraqi Freedom/New Dawn and their families.
