The Plainedge Red Devils entered its first round Conference IV playoff matchup against Division on Tuesday looking not only advance to the next round, but also to maintain its undefeated record.

“Before the match I told them all that hard work comes down to today’s match,” said Plainedge head coach Lorraine Amato. “A whole season of being undefeated can be lost in the first round of playoffs and they had to play smart and keep their determination driving them forward.”

Plainedge did just that, sweeping all seven matches against Division for a 7-0 victory, improving its record to 13-0 on the year.

Senior captain Tommy Marigliano beat John Biegner at third singles 6-1, 6-3 to lead the Red Devils, while Zach Chang stayed undefeated at first singles by taking down Aaron Giles-Jeffer. In doubles, Dylan Pagan and Kyle Oleksak also kept their winning ways going by beating Nick Sanchez and Anthony Richard 6-2, 6-0.

Plainedge now moves on to face New Hyde Park in the Conference IV finals, setting up a matchup between the two top teams in the league.

“They will have to keep that fire burning against New Hyde Park, which has been a tough competitor throughout the season” said Amato.
