On April 30, Long Beach Tennis Center (LBTC), along with the Junior First Lego League Team, “Merrick Connection” and Cure Mommy’s Breast Cancer (CMBC), held a children’s Tennis Carnival at LBTC. Kids were able to experience tennis through the fun and exciting 10-and-Under format, while the 11- to 13-year-olds were able to enjoy full court games and skill challenges.

Using a grant awarded by the United States Tennis Association, Merrick Connection, helped to organize the event and supply prizes for the more than 60 attendees to win at the “Hit for Prizes” competition. Raffles included racquets, Lego products, games and more. Thanks to Bill Mecca from the USTA/Eastern-Long Island Region and Head Racquet Sports for the donated tennis equipment.

LI Sports Complex from Freeport, N.Y. was on hand, on one of the courts, adding to the overall excitement level. The multi-sport blow-up station, provided a fun interactive activity for the participants.

The Long Beach Tennis Center pros and staff, led by Chuck Russell and Lori D’Antonio, donated their time for the event. Dory Levinter, Naz Siddiqui, Andrew Comacho, Ron Coburn, Amondine and Flo Legoupil, Nicole Feerst, Jessie Myers, Jared Berse, and Michael Hecht all helped make the carnival such a memorable event.

CMBC is a non-profit organization devoted to helping cancer patients by providing them with financial support. Through a partnership between CMBC and LBTC, LBTC provides affordable tennis programming for children and adults while raising money to support the CMBC mission. All the proceeds from the carnival were donated to the Robbie Levine Foundation, a foundation established to raise awareness of the need for and importance of AEDs in saving lives, particularly in youth athletics.

Thanks to all, attendees and staff, and contributors, for helping run such a successful, awesome event. Plans are already in the works for the next event at Long Beach Tennis Center.
