Chela Announces His Retirement

Argentina’s Juan Ignacio Chela has announced his retirement from professional tennis, leaving with six ATP singles titles and three in doubles, all on clay. The 33-year-old Chela has been hinting at retirement for weeks, and he announced his decision on Monday on his Twitter account (@ JuanIChela).

"After many years it was time to move to another stage in my life, I retire from professional tennis," said Chela in a Twitter post on Monday.

Chela reached three Grand Slam quarterfinals, the French Open in 2004 and 2011, and the U.S. Open in 2007.
Known as El Flaco or The Skinny One, Chela is retiring with his singles ranking at 176th and career earnings of $6.5 million.
