Girls High School Recap: Great Neck South Beats Wheatley to Cap Off Undefeated Season

The Rebels of Great Neck South completed its undefeated 14-0 regular season with a 5-2 win over Wheatley Thursday. Amanda Zeitlin & Mollie Blank led the way for the Rebels as they notched a hard-fought 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 victory at third doubles. After a tremendous regular season, Great Neck South now sets its sights on a playoff run and potential county championship.
Great Neck South wasn’t the only team who concluded a fantastic regular season on Thursday. While the Rebels locked up the top spot in Conference II-A, the top team in Conference II-B, the Hewlett Bulldogs, won its ninth straight match to secure a first-round bye. The Bulldogs knocked off the Massapequa Chiefs 6-1 in its final regular season match Thursday. The win moves the Bulldogs to 11-1 on the season as it carries a nine-match winning streak into the county playoffs.
The Baldwin Bruins traveled to Mepham to take on the Pirates in a Conference III-A bout. Baldwin’s Daija Spencer came back to beat Ali Davila of Mepham 6-7(5-7), 6-0, 6-2 in first singles to push the Bruins to the win. Baldwin improved to 7-5 while the loss drops Mepham to 3-8 on the season.
The Wantagh Warriors continued its winning ways with a 6-1 victory over Malverne/East Rockaway. The Warriors got a huge contribution from Danielle Mirabella at first singles as she beat Courtney Jackson 6-0, 6-0 to help lead the way. Wantagh improves to 11-2 in Conference III-B.
Also in Nassau’s Conference III-B, East Meadow rolled past Valley Stream North 7-0 to finish off an undefeated regular season at 12-0.
