Pine Hollow Defeats North Hills in Final LIPTL Match of the Season

August 9, 2010 | By Gary Simeone

In the final match of the 2010 Long Island Professional Tennis League (LIPTL) season, Pine Hollow Country Club was able to end on a good note by beating rival North Hills 17-14.

In the first match of the day, Pine Hollow’s Blair Seiderman was pitted against Hill’s Katka Sevikova. Seiderman, who won the New York State High School championship, was the better player with more accurate and consistent strokes. She jumped out to a quick 3-0 leading before giving up a game. With the score 4-1 Sevikova made a small comeback winning the next two games but it was to no avail. Seiderman won the next game and and was able to serve out the set winning convincingly, 6-3.

In men’s singles, Pine Hollow’s Robert Jenderlund got off to a rough start, double faulting twice to lose the opening game of the set to Hill’s Imran Choudhuri. Choudhuri stayed strong with some big forehands down the line to take the 3-2 edge. Jenderlund was able to win the next two games, however, and the set ended up in a nine-point tiebreak. With some good baseline rallies and unforced errors by Choudhuri, Jenderlund was able to pull out the victory for Pine Hollow.

Down in points Hills needed a convincing win in the doubles match from the pair of Sevikova & Choudhuri, who were taking on Seiderman & Jenderlund, in order to pull out a victory. Things looked good when they got out ahead to a quick 4-1 lead but the home crowd was disappointed as Pine Hollow made a strong comeback to even the score. At 5-5 a deciding tiebreak was played. Sevikova and Choudhuri won the tiebreak to win the match. They won the set but were not able to gain enough points to win the match losing in a close battle, 17-14.

"The LIPTL was a very big success this year," said Coach and Tennis Director at Pine Hollow, Butch Seewagen. "We are looking forward to an equally good year next season."
