Valley Stream South Boys Win Fourth Straight to Start the Season

The Valley Stream South Falcons boys tennis team continued its excellent start to the 2015 season, defeating Freeport 5-2 in a Conference IV-A matchup to win its fourth consecutive match and improve to 4-0 on the season.

The Falcons received solid singles play with Brendan Zimmerman and Hamza Sadhra picking up wins at first and second singles, respectively. Valley Stream South also got a nice boost at fourth doubles as Jefferson Poserio & Brian Varvajal beat Freeport’s Eric Stortz & Steven Canela 7-6(7-4), 6-1.

Also remaining undefeated on the year Wednesday afternoon was Syosset, who swept past Friends Academy 7-0 in a Conference I-B showdown. The Braves were led by sophomore Yash Samantarav and junior Aditya Dave who won their doubles match 6-2, 6-4.

Syosset is now 3-0 on the season and has yet to drop a single match in those three contests.

Elsewhere in Nassau, Plainedge edged Wantagh 4-3 in a Conference III-B matchup. The key match came at second doubles, when Plainedge’s Matt Chung & Steve Sciotino came back from a set down to beat Raul Fernandez & Charlie Mazzer of Wantagh 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

With the contest even at 3-3, the decider came at fourth doubles as Tom Connelly and Nick Ticali defeated Wantagh’s Matt Pullman and Tristan Cruz 6-0, 6-4.
