Murray Hangs On to Move Into Aegon Championships Semis

Andy Murray needed three sets, but hung on to beat Luxembourg’s Gilles Muller 3-6, 7-6(2), 6-4 to reach the semifinals of the Aegon Championships from London on Friday.
Muller came out of the gate firing, breaking in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead in the opening set. After Murray failed to capitalize on two break point chances in the next game, Muller went on to serve out the set.
The second set saw all holds of serve through the first 12 games, sending the frame into a tiebreaker. Murray’s return game picked up, and he was able to cruise through the tiebreak and force a third set.
An early break in the third gave him the advantage he needed, and the Scot would go on to serve out the match for the three-set victory.
Murray will play Serbia’s Viktor Troicki next. Troicki beat American John Isner 7-6(3), 6-3.
Seventh-seeded Frenchman Gilles Simon came back from a set down to upend third-seeded Canadian Milos Raonic 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
“I couldn’t return any serve in for one set and a half,” said Simon. “I had a lot of trouble to win my service game. I was under pressure every time. And then I don’t know how it turns, a bit out of nowhere.”
Simon will play Kevin Anderson, who beat Spain’s Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 7-6(7), 7-5.
