Seeded third in the Women’s Singles draw, Russian Maria Sharapova has announced her withdrawal from the 2015 U.S. Open. Citing a right leg injury, Sharapova has been out of action since June when she lost to Serena Williams in the semifinals of Wimbledon.

Fellow Russian Daria Kasatkina has been tapped to replace Sharapova in the draw, and will face Australian Daria Gavrilova in the first round.

“Unfortunately I will not be able to compete in this year’s U.S. Open,” said Sharapova via her official Facebook Page. “I have done everything possible to be ready, but it was just not enough time. To all my amazing fans, I will be back in the Asian swing in a few weeks and look forward to finishing the year healthy and strong.”
