Syosset Girls Edge Roslyn in Conference I Action

Syosset High School defeated Roslyn 4-3 in a Conference I battle over the weekend. On Friday, the Lady Braves notched its first win of the season by coming back and winning the final two matches against Roslyn.

Trailing 2-3, Tal Bodner defeated Ashley Messinger to even the match at 3-all. The deciding match would come down to first doubles, and Gabi Sklar & Marissa Levine of Syosset came through with a 7-5, 2-6, 7-6(5) win to give Syosset its first victory of the year.

Also in Conference I on Friday, Great Neck South won its second straight conference match to open the year, moving past Friends Academy 4-3 behind Haarika Reddy’s 5-7, 7-5, 6-1 comeback win at third singles.

These two matches weren’t the only tight ones over the weekend. In Conference II, Great Neck North improved to 4-0 with a 4-3 victory over Cold Spring Harbor. The difference in this one came at fourth doubles, as Great Neck North’s Megan Xu & Sam Damaghi knocked off Ally Pomper & Olivia Howell 7-6(4), 7-5.

Also in Conference II, Massapequa picked up its first victory of the season, defeating Bellmore 4-3. Nicole Schiraldi notched a huge comeback win for the Chiefs, beating Sharma Shivani 1-6, 6-4, 7-5.

Long Beach defeated Carey 6-1 in Conference III-B action. It was led by a pair of freshman, Alexa Goffin & Jamie Alegria, both of whom were making the varsity debut. Both girls looked strong in their debut, both winning in straight sets to anchor the Long Beach victory.
