Chilly Conditions Kick Off Nassau Girl’s Team Playoffs

The first-round of the Nassau County High School Girl’s Team Playoffs got underway on a chilly Monday afternoon, as four teams booked spots in Tuesday’s quarterfinals.
The Syosset Braves upended Conference III-B champions New Hyde Park 4-3. The clinching match came at third doubles, off the racquets of senior Joey Baranowski & sophomore Jessie Levy.
The win moves Syosset into a quarterfinals matchup against the second-seeded Roslyn.
In another tight first-round matchup, Hewlett edged Great Neck North 4-3 behind the second doubles duo of Brianna Beshkin & Rachel Vcherashansky, who came back from a set down to beat Cameron Ahlers & Marina Pemia, 4-6, 6-0, 7-5.
The win moves Hewlett to 15-0 on the season as it will look to continue its undefeated season against fourth-seeded Locust Valley in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
Port Washington downed East Meadow 7-0 behind the second doubles duo of Maddie Rosenbaum & Syuki Mori, to set up a quarterfinals matchup with top-seed and undefeated Manhasset.
The Cold Spring Harbor Seahawks is into the quarterfinals as well, set to face Friends Academy after a 5-2 win over Lynbrook on Monday.
The Seahawks were led by Brooke Martin & Caroline Reilly, who defeated Sarah Molis & Hannah Burton 6-3, 6-2 at fourth doubles.
