American Jack Sock advanced to the ASB Classic final in Auckland, New Zealand, moving past top-seeded Spaniard David Ferrer 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinals on Friday.

After serving up a break point in the first set, allowing Ferrer to win the opener, Sock did not even face a break point in the final two sets.

He scored a couple of breaks of his own in the second set, and then opened the third set by breaking Ferrer and never looked back, going on to complete the comeback victory in one hour and 19 minutes.

“I knew coming in I would have to play some unbelievable tennis,” said Sock. “It was a difficult day. I woke up with some flu-like symptoms. I didn’t know if I was going to play. I ended up coming out and playing some of my best tennis of my career.

Maybe I can stay stick through Melbourne and play like this.”

In the final, Sock will take on another Spaniard, Roberto Bautista-Agut.

The eighth-seed, who already took out a big-hitting American in John Isner in the quarterfinals, came back from a set down to beat second-seeded Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-4.

Sock leads the head-to-head series with Bautista-Agut 2-1.
