Two young New Yorkers will be competing in the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells this week, as Long Island’s Noah Rubin and Bronxville’s Jamie Loeb will both take to the court today in the opening round of the tournament’s main draw.

Loeb was given a wild card into the main draw, joining Shelby Rogers, Lauren Davis, Alison Riske and Samantha Crawford as American women to receive a wild card.

Loeb will take on Kazakhstan’s Zarina Diyas in the opening round this afternoon.

Rubin had to go through qualifying in order to book his spot in the main draw. After turning aside Mikhail Ledovskikh 6-4, 6-2 in the opening round of qualifiers on Tuesday, Rubin took on fellow American Dennis Novikov on Wednesday afternoon.

Once again, he notched a straight-set victory, beating Novikov 7-5, 6-3 to earn a spot in the main draw.

Joining Rubin in the main draw from qualifying are fellow Americans Ryan Harrison, Alexander Sarkissian, Bjorn Fratangelo and Tim Smyczek.

Rubin will square off with fellow American Rajeev Ram in the opening round. Ram was one of three American men to receive a wild card.
