World number one Novak Djokovic notched a fairly routine victory over 15th seed David Goffin on Friday afternoon, moving past the Belgian 7-6(5), 6-4 to book his spot in the Miami Open final.
Djokovic fell behind early as Goffin broke for a 4-3 lead, but as he does so often, Djokovic broke right back immediately to even things at 4-4.
Both players would hold serve for the next four games to send the opening set into a tiebreaker. The Serb opened up a 4-2 advantage before Goffin showed his toughness to even things at 4-4. But a missed overhead from Goffin allowed Djokovic to go up 5-4, and he went on to win the breaker.
In the second, Djokovic broke for a 4-3 lead and never looked back. He won 22 of 30 points on serve in the second set to win it 6-4, booking his spot in his 11th straight Masters 1000 final.
“It was very warm, very humid,” Djokovic said of the conditions. “But I was proud to stay tough in the important moments and come up with some big serves.”
In the final, Djokovic will play the winner of Nick Kyrgios and Kei Nishikori.
