Day Six of the 2010 U.S. Open was full of action, as the sport’s top stars once again took to the courts of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. American upstart Beatrice Capra’s Cinderella run came to an end on Saturday as she fell to the 14th-seeded Russian Maria Sharapova, 6-0, 6-0.

On the men’s side, second-seeded Roger Federer defeated unseeded Paul-Henri Mathieu of France, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3. Fifth-seeded Robin Soderling of Sweden advanced with a 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 win over Thiemo de Bakker. Frenchman and 17th-seeded Gael Monfils, who is quickly becoming a crowd favorite in Flushing Meadows, also advanced with a 7-6(4), 6-7(4), 6-2, 6-4 win over Serbian Janko Tipsarevic. Tipsarevic had upset the number nine seed Andy Roddick just a few days into the Open.

It was mixed results for American men’s singles as James Blake lost to the number three seed, Novak Djokovic of Serbia, 6-1, 7-6(4) 6-3, but 19th-seeded American Mardy Fish lived to see another day with his 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 win over Frenchman Arnaud Clement.
