World number 47 Eugenie Bouchard was defeated in the second round of the 2016 French Open Thursday, falling to world number nine Timea Bacsinszky 6-4, 6-4. Bouchard got out to a 4-1 lead in the opening set before Bacsinszky ran off 10 consecutive games and seizing the momentum.
"I felt like I put myself in a good position in preparation and everything," Bouchard said. "I've done everything that I possibly could to be ready. I started out strong. The game plan was working and things like that. I think that my focus a little bit was the part that let me down, the mental part. Something I've been working on. I had been getting better, so it's not always going to be good."
Their only previous meeting took place earlier in the year at Indian Wells, a 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 win by Bacsinszky, who will meet France’s Pauline Parmentier, a winner Thursday over American Irina Falconi, 6-3, 6-1. Bacsinszky holds a 2-1 career record against Parmentier.
Also defeated Thursday was world number 31 Andrea Petkovic who fell to world number 60, Russian Yulia Putintseva, 6-2, 6-2.
