Novak Djokovic made history on Sunday morning, becoming the first man in almost 50 years to win four consecutive Grand Slam titles. Djokovic won the one major that had previously eluded him, overcoming a slow start to defeat Andy Murray in 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 for his first career French Open title.

"It's really a very special moment," Djokovic said. "Perhaps the greatest moment of my career."

After the first set, Djokovic began to set the tone in points, controlling play with both his return game and on his serve. After dropping the opening set, he responded well to dominate the rest of the match, breaking Murray twice in each of the last three sets, converting on his third match point to claim his maiden Roland Garros championship.

“I needed a little bit of time to really find the right rhythm and to start playing the way I intended, which happened in the beginning of the second and practically until 5-2 in the fourth set. It was flawless tennis,” Djokovic said. “I really felt like I played high quality and put a lot of pressure on Andy's serves.”

Djokovic has now won 28 Grand Slam matches in a row, a streak that began at Wimbledon last year. His last loss in a Grand Slam was in last year’s French Open final to Stan Wawrinka. The last man to hold all four major titles simultaneously was Rod Laver when he completed the calendar-year Grand Slam in 1969. Don Budge also completed the feat in 1938.

"I don't want to sound arrogant… but I think everything is achievable in life." Djokovic on his quest for the Calendar Grand Slam.

Djokovic  is the eighth man in the sport’s history to complete the career Grand Slam, and now has 12 major titles, five shy of Roger Federer’s record of 17.
