Former Wimbledon Champ Bartoli Dealing With Unknown Virus

France’s Marion Bartoli went on French television this morning and revealed that she is dealing with a mystery virus which has triggered her drastic weight loss.

“I want to go back to a normal life. I have been reduced to eating organic salad leaves and pre-washed cucumber with no skin,” Bartoli told ITV’s This Morning. “I cannot access protein. I just drink and drink and drink to get everything out.”

The 2013 Wimbledon champion was told by doctors she was unable to play at an invitation event this week at Wimbledon due to her health. Bartoli said that her condition is so rare that medical experts have no name for it.

“I fear for my life,” Bartoli added. “I worry that one day my heart will stop. This is not life. I am just surviving.”

Bartoli said she caught the virus in India in February, and that after going to Miami and Dallas to promote her fashion line, her condition got worse.

“I can’t even have a tissue on my face as my body reacts, it is horrendous,” said Bartoli. “My life is a nightmare right now. I wouldn’t wish what I am going through on anyone. My body started refusing more and more things—anything from food to electrical items. I can’t type on my phone without gloves, I can’t wear jewelry as I get a bad skin reaction.

I can’t type on the phone without gloves and for no more than five minutes as my heart will start to pump faster.”

Bartoli said she will begin treatment at a clinic starting on Monday.
