Former Wimbledon champion Andy Murray cruised into the final on Friday, dispatching Tomas Berdych in straight sets, reaching the third Wimbledon final of his career with a 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 semifinal victory.

Murray broke in Berdych’s opening service game to take the early 2-0 lead, only to see Berdych respond with a break in the ensuing game. The set would remain on serve until 4-3, when Berdych committed four unforced errors in his service game to allow Murray the break and a 5-3 advantage.

After serving out the set, Murray broke at 3-3 in the second set, thanks again to some unforced errors from Berdych. After holding serve, the Scot broke one more time to take the commanding two sets to love lead.

Murray would convert on his only break point chance at 2-1 in the third set, and once again relinquished nothing on his own serve, going on to serve out the set and the match for the straight-set victory.

“I’m obviously very happy,” Murray said afterwards. “The middle of the second set was key, he obviously had a couple of chances to break. The older you get you never know how many chances you’re going to get to play in Grand Slam finals so you want to make the most of your opportunities. I mean you learn from those matches, having had those experiences in the past, playing against some of the best players of all time. I need to play a great match on Sunday if I want to win.”

Murray hopes his experience will help in Sunday’s final when he takes on Milos Raonic, who is making his Grand Slam final debut. Raonic knocked off seven-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer in Friday’s other semifinal.

â–ºThe run of Long Island’s Scott Lipsky and partner Alla Kudryavtseva in the mixed doubles draw came to an end on Friday, as the pair fell to Heather Watson and Henri Kontinen who advanced to the semifinals with the 6-3, 6-2 victory.
