Four American men pushed their way into the Citi Open quarterfinals in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, as John Isner, Jack Sock, Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey all won their respective third round matches to reach the final eight.

In an all-American showdown, the fifth-seeded Johnson notched a routine 6-4, 6-4 victory to defeat Ryan Harrison. Johnson was able to nail down one break point in each set, and won 86 percent of the points on his first serve.

“My serve got me out of some trouble. I was down love-30 a couple of times, was down love-15 when serving for the match. You never know how quickly these things can turn,” said Johnson. “I was fortunate to put in good first serves when I had to and I’m happy to be off the court instead of still playing.”

Johnson will meet Isner in the quarterfinals, after the tournament’s top seed defeated 15th seed Marcos Baghdatis 7-6(3), 6-2. Isner won 80 percent of the points on his serve to move past the Cypriot in straight sets.

Sock needed one hour and 15 minutes to beat Great Britain’s Daniel Evans 6-1, 7-5, setting up a quarterfinal showdown with the 6’11 Ivo Karlovic. The 13th seed Karlovic defeated third-seed Bernard Tomic 7-6(4), 6-3.

The fourth American into the quarterfinals was eighth-seed Sam Querrey. The Wimbledon quarterfinalist downed 11th seed Alexandr Dolgopolov 7-6(5), 6-3 to set up a matchup with second-seed Gael Monfils, a 6-2, 6-3 victor over Borna Coric.

The other quarterfinal in Washington will see Alexander Zverev take on Benoit Paire.

On the women’s side in Washington, American Lauren Davis cruised past third-seed Monica Puig 6-4, 6-2 to reach the final eight. She will play Camila Giorgi, who received a walk over.
