USTA Eastern will conclude the year at its Annual Conference from January 27-29 at the Renaissance Hotel in White Plains, where it will honor and celebrate the people who have had an impact on our tennis community.
Among those who will be honored are several Long Islanders, both juniors and adults, for the work and dedication they have shown.
One of those honorees will be Eileen Leonard of Locust Valley, who will be receiving the Umpire Service Award in “recognition of her many contributions to the field of tennis officiating.”
Leonard has officiated at countless junior and adult tournaments in Nassau and Suffolk Counties over the years and has volunteered at many tennis events on Long Island and the Eastern Section. She currently is Administrator for the Long Island Region Competition Training Center and volunteers on the Long Island Region board, where she is Competition Training Chair.
She has been a referee for numerous national tournaments. In 2011, Leonard received the USTA’s Nicholas E. Powel Award for working primarily at sectional/amateur events, her supportive attitude toward grass-roots programming, and being a positive role model.
