Eighth-ranked Madison Keys will miss the Australian Open to start 2017.
The American announced on social media that she won’t be ready for the start of the season as she continues to recover from the wrist surgery she had after the WTA Finals in October.
“I will not be ready to play the 2017 Australian Open,” Keys said in a Twitter post. “Three days after the year-end WTA Championships I had minor arthroscopic surgery on my left wrist; the procedure was very short, did not involve any tennis issues, and went very well…I don’t want to rush back and need to take my time to be fully ready to perform my best on the court.”
Keys burst onto the scene when she reached the semifinals in Melbourne two years ago, which is still her best result at any of the Grand Slams.
The eighth-ranked American also shared the news that she will be once again working with Lindsay Davenport. The two worked together during the 2015 season.
“I am very excited about working with Lindsay again as she’s helped me reach great results in the past and we make an excellent team!” said Keys.
