Sock Beats Cilic to End American Drought at ATP Finals

Jack Sock became the first American to win a match at the ATP Finals since 2007 on Tuesday, downing Croat Marin Cilic 5-7, 6-2, 7-6(4) in his second match in round-robin play at the O2 Arena in London, England.
Sock lost his opening match to Roger Federer but improved to 1-1 in the early stages of the tournament by coming back to beat Cilic. Andy Roddick was the last American player to win a match at the end-of-year finals, doing so back in 2007.
“I wouldn’t be out here playing, competing, if I didn’t think I could give myself a chance to win tournaments,” said Sock. “I’m not the type of guy that will just enter a draw and be happy to make the third round or quarters or whatever. I’m here to win matches. I think if I do the right things and I play the right tennis, I can give myself a chance to play on the weekend of any tournament.”
Sock concludes his round-robin play on Thursday when he takes on Alexander Zverev of Germany.
