Long Island High School Recap: Thursday, September 13
Ward Melville, the defending Suffolk County champions, improved to 3-0 in Suffolk County’s League V on Thursday, downing Port Jefferson 5-2.
The Patriots were led by Kira Kronenberg, who won 6-0, 6-1 over Nicolina Giannola at third singles to help clinch the victory.
Massapequa got into the win column in the 2018 season with a 4-2 victory over New Hyde Park, in a match that was shortened due to rain. Dana Muscarnera and Victoria Bowman notched a 6-4, 6-3 win against Taylor Jung and Anna Ngaliyath at second doubles to help lead the Chiefs to victory.
Jericho swept all seven matches in a 7-0 victory over Great Neck South. Varsha Bansal and Sarah Josinsky beat Belinda Chen and Lea Glueck 6-4, 6-3 at first doubles to anchor the Jericho victory.
Sachita Gupta and Anushka Gupta led Great Neck North to a 6-1 win over Oceanside on Thursday. The pair came back from a set down to beat Rita Bogonova and Marisa Mast 4-6, 7-5, 10-5 at third doubles to lead the Blazers to the win.
South Side improved to 2-0 with a 6-1 victory against Plainview JFK, pulling out two three-set matches to secure the victory. Also in Nassau, Herricks beat Glen Cove 6-1 while Long Beach defeated Bethpage 7-0.
West Hempstead won 5-2 over Uniondale as Kim Lazo notched a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Nya Dieudonne at second singles.
