One-On-One Doubles Event in Florida to Be Televised

The $15,000 Florida One-On-One Doubles Championships will be held at the historic St. Petersburg Tennis Center in St. Petersburg, Fl. on Saturday, May 7. The event will be filmed for a delayed broadcast on Florida’s premiere sports television network, Bally Sports Florida, the same network that airs the Tampa Bay Rays and Tampa Bay Lightning games, amongst other professional and collegiate sporting events.
ATP level players and former ATP Grand Slam players, will be competing for $15,000 in prize money in short set matches to qualify for the televised Semifinals and Finals. The One-On-One Doubles tournament players will include Noah Rubin, former Wimbledon Junior Singles Champion, winner of four ATP Challenger tournaments, who defeated the #17 seed at the Australian Open in 2016; Robert Kendrick, formerly #69 ATP ranked who went five sets with Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon in 2006; Michael Redlicki, who played the 2012 US Open Doubles and has registered three top 50 ATP Singles wins during his career; and Ryler DeHeart, nationally ranked #1 in the ITA National singles rankings when competing for the University of Illinois and went on to reach a #120 ATP Doubles ranking in 2010.
Rubin, looking forward to his first One-On-One Doubles Tournament, said:
“This One-On- One Doubles Shootout is unique and it will add some needed excitement to the world of tennis”.
Kendrick, who won a 2014 One-On-One Doubles Championship, at the Kiwi Tennis Club in Melbourne, Fl., said:
“I always enjoy rocking out to One-On-One Doubles for guys my age who can still crush the young guys! Let’s go!”
During the morning of this event, tennis legends Luke Jensen and Jimmy Arias will be joined by Coach Ed Krass, the founder of One-On-One Doubles Tournaments, and his coaching staff, to conduct the sponsor/VIP tennis instructional clinic focusing on the net game. Jensen and Arias will be the event’s television announcers as well.
To kickoff this One-On-One Doubles Tournament, in its fan friendly, customary fashion, there will be a concert with one of Florida’s touring rockin’ blues bands, the RJ Howson Band. The band is scheduled to play during the first half of the tournament.
This event will offer free General Admission and a $200 VIP experience. The VIP
experience includes participation in the Legends Clinic and VIP seating with food and drink hospitality. VIP tickets are limited and available on the event’s website at https://oneononedoubles.com.
The tournament event will benefit the Tennis Foundation of St. Petersburg who operate the St. Petersburg Tennis Center. A Taco Bus Food Truck and beer/wine/soft drinks will be available for purchase.
About One-On-One Doubles
One-On-One Doubles Tennis was founded in 2004 and sanctioned by the USTA and UTR, is the crosscourt serve-and-volley Singles game including the doubles alley. Players are required to serve-and-volley on both first and second serve or there is a loss of point. Half volleys are allowed. Players earn a two- point bonus for winning volleys and overheads the opponent cannot touch. Advancing the Game Inc. is the company that operates and administers One-on-One Doubles tournaments. Its mission is to showcase and advance all court, serve-and-volley tennis and provide a good time, fan-friendly atmosphere.
One-On-One Doubles Tournaments, which solely showcase serve-and-volley tennis, have been held at ATP, USTA, ITA and USPTA national events and have been televised nationally and regionally on Tennis Channel, Fox Sports Florida, and the New England Sports Network (NESN).
The USTA National Tennis Center, the home of the U.S. Open, has hosted four professional One-On-One Doubles Tournaments to date. One-On-One Doubles Tennis is known as the first alternative game to Singles and Doubles since the inception of Tennis in the 1870s.
