The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has confirmed that Ivo Karlovic has broken the world record for the fastest serve with a 156 mile-per-hour serve in a Davis Cup doubles match for his Croatian team Saturday against Germany. Despite the record-setting feat, Karlovic and his doubles partnert Ivan Dodig dropped the match, 3-6, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, to the German pairing of Christopher Kas & Philipp Petzschner.

The previous mark for fastest serve was held by Andy Roddick who hit 155 mph on the radar gun in 2004 ironically also in a Davis Cup match.
