Spaniard and 2003 French Open champion Juan Carlos Ferrero and American Andy Roddick have announced that they have withdrawn from the 2011 French Open, both citing shoulder injuries. Roddick, currently ranked 11th in the world, has lost four consecutive matches dating back to mid-March. Ferrero, ranked 72nd in the world, has played only five matches to date in 2011.

“I’m not going to take a risk if I’m risking months and months and months of injury,” said Roddick, who has never advanced past the fourth round at the French Open. “I’m not gonna take a stupid risk, if that makes sense.”

Lithuanian and 78th-ranked player in the world Richard Berankis has also pulled out of Roland Garros with a hip injury.
