Merrick, N.Y.’s Scott Lipsky and his mixed-doubles partner Casey Dellacqua of Australia have done it again, clinching a spot in the mixed-doubles championship match at the 2011 French Open. The duo was able to overcome a surge from opponents Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil & Jarmila Gajdosova of Australia to advance.

After taking the first set in a tie-breaker, Lipsky & Dellacqua dropped the second set taking the match to a decisive third set super tie-breaker. The first team to 10 points, winning by a margin of two, would play for the championship. It was clear that Lipsky & Dellacqua were not going to settle on this day. On their fifth match point opportunity, Lipsky was able to close out the match on serve giving his team a hard-fought 7-6(5), 2-6, 14-12 victory and the chance to play for the 2011 French Open Mixed-Doubles Championship.

The pair of Lipsky & Dellacqua will now have to “slay the giant,” as they face number one seeds Nenad Zimonkic of Serbia & Katarina Srebotnick of Slovenia in the finals. Lipsky should now have a better feel for Zimonjic’s game after falling to the Serb and partner Michael Llodra of France in the men’s doubles quarterfinals yesterday. Should the American/Australian duo capture their first ever Grand Slam mixed-doubles title, it would only make sense to go through the highest-ranked team left en route to the win.
