Free QuickStart Tennis to Hit Local Parks This Wednesday
July 25, 2011 | By Long Island Tennis Magazine Staff
The USTA/Eastern-Long Island Region and the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation & Museums are inviting children ages 10 and under from across Nassau County to select parks for a free day of tennis lessons and fun this coming Wednesday, July 27.
The fourth annual QuickStart Tennis in the Parks Day runs from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at eight county parks: Eisenhower Park, Cantiague Park, Wantagh Park, Centennial Park, Cow Meadow Park, Christopher Morley Park, Nickerson Beach and North Woodmere, where a special-needs instructional group will convene at noon. Participants will learn to play tennis the “QuickStart” way, a USTA program specially designed for children under the age of 10 where the racquets are smaller, balls are lighter and tennis courts are shorter.
Last year, more than 1,000 children participated in the event. Tennis pros from clubs and parks across Nassau County will be volunteering their time and supplying equipment to make the day a success. Pros and tennis enthusiasts who want to help out on Wednesday or who have equipment to contribute can contact Bill Mecca at mecca@eastern.usta.com.
