Syosset Moves to 7-0 With Win Over Hewlett

The Lady Braves tennis team of Syosset chalked up another victory Wednesday defeating Hewlett 7-0 in match play to remain undefeated for the season.
Number one singles player, Hannah Camhi had the most competitive match of the day, beating Hewlett’s Gabriella Leon 7-5, 6-4. Both players remained steady through some hard hitting rallies, however, Camhi was able to gain the upper hand by winning the big points and hitting key winners at the right time.
"I wasn’t striking the ball well to start out," said Camhi, "but I figured out a way to win by aiming safer and keeping the balls in play. I was also able to get a good percentage of my first serves in which helped."
Syosset’s first doubles team, Lisa Petruzillo & Rhea Malhotra won their match in straight sets 6-2, 6-2, and second doubles, Alexa Sternschein & Hayley O’Rourke beat Hewlett’s Danielle Cooperman & Ariel Eisenberg 6-1, 6-1. Second singles player, Rithika Reddy was unchallenged in her match defeating Monica Sigler, who was subbing at second singles 6-0, 6-0.
Syosset Coach, Larry Levane, is confident his team will be able to defend the Nassau County title for their third year in a row.
"We’ve got a lot of balance and depth at both singles and doubles," said Levane. "We’re also not beating ourselves out there and if another team is going to beat us they’re going to have to be solid at every position."
He added that the experience and talent the team has will take them a long way.
"I think our experience and talent gives us confidence when we go up against other teams. It’s also more than just having some great individual players which is the case for a lot of teams. We work hard as a unit and I think that’s what sets us apart."
