Carefree Racquet Club Hosts Spring Break Tournaments

Over the holiday break in April, Carefree Racquet Club hosted two weekend doubles tournaments for adult players, one in the Men’s Doubles 6.0 – 7.0 category, and one in the Women’s Doubles 6.0 – 7.0 category.

Marie Romeo-Gough & Laura Crain paired up to win the Women’s Doubles division, while Christopher Arena & Ray Xerri were the Men’s Doubles winners.

“Playing with Laura is great because we really complement each other well,” Romeo-Gaugh said. “She’s strategic, steady, and does a great job setting me up with her serve and groundstrokes. We also have a relaxed dynamic on court, and I think that trust and chemistry really make us a strong team.”

Both players were complementary of the event and format as Carefree continues to offer players unique opportunities to compete.

“I’m not sure if it’s specific to Long Island, but I feel like winter and spring are mostly dominated by Mixed Doubles USTA events, so it was really nice to find a women’s doubles tournament that enables us to keep playing and working hard as the lead-up to our summer USTA season,” Crain said.

Romeo-Gough added:

“The event was such a fun experience overall,” said Marie Romeo-Gough. “It was a great way to bring women together in a competitive but friendly atmosphere, and everyone was so welcoming. I think smaller tournaments like this throughout the year are a great idea because they give players more opportunities to compete, connect and keep improving the game.”
