Garden City’s Bravo, Wiese Capture Second Straight Nassau County Doubles Title

Garden City’s CJ Bravo & Ben Wiese successfully defended their Nassau County doubles title, defeating Aayan Mehta & Nikhil Shah of Syosset 6-2, 6-0 in the championship at Eisenhower Park on Saturday.
The win in the finals came after the duo beat Roslyn’s Bartek Dziedziach & Oliver Samter 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals.
“There were a lot of tight matches,” Wiese said. “The score might not show it but every point was close, so to win this again means so much. There was a chance we wouldn’t play doubles again, but decided to and this makes it all worth it.”

Bravo & Wiese got an early break in the opening set of the championship and remained incredibly consistent with their own serves to deny any possibility of a comeback. The two have developed an on-court chemistry where Bravo plays well at the baseline, and Wiese closed down points with aggressive play at the net.
“We’ve trained hard, and I think we both improved a lot from last year,” said Bravo.
Garden City head coach Jen Soper added:
“They are great kids who always put everything into their tennis, day in and day out. It’s a pleasure to coach them. It’s the little things they do, like how smart they are on court and picking each other up. This year they had a lot on their shoulders, and CJ was hurt for a bit in the middle of the season, but they knew what they wanted to accomplish and remained focused on that.”
Bravo & Wiese now hope their experience competing at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Individual Championships at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center a year ago, when they reached the quarterfinals, will pay off this time around.
“We’re both really excited, the confidence level is high but we know we have to keep fighting,” Weise said. “It’ll be good competition and tough matches, but we’re looking forward to it.”

Syosset’s Mehta & Shah qualify for States as the Nassau County finalists, as do their teammates Grayson Prince & Jacob Prince, who defeated Roslyn’s Dziedziach & Samter 6-4, 6-4 in the third-place match.
