Garden City’s Bravo, Wiese Win New York State Doubles Title

A year ago, Garden City’s Benjamin Wiese & CJ Bravo finished in fifth place in doubles after falling in the quarterfinals at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Individual Championships.
The team that defeated them in the quarterfinals in 2025? Pratik Nyak & Christopher Cho of Clarkstown South High School. Nyakk & Cho would go on to win the 2025 title, and so it was only fitting that when Weise & Bravo powered their way into the finals of this year’s NYSPHSAA Doubles draw, their opponents were Nyak & Cho.
“We lost in three sets to the team that won it all, and it made us realize that we had the chance to win and blew it,” said Wiese. “It motivated us to work extra hard this year.”

That motivation powered them throughout the season, as Wiese & Bravo defended their Nassau County doubles title with their sights set on winning a State title. The duo dropped just eight total games en route to the championship match, and had their chance at revenge against Nyak & Cho, and deny their opponents a second straight State title.
“The experience last year helped a lot,” Wiese added. “We got rid of the nerves of playing big matches in a place like the National Tennis Center. The loss helped both of us realize how much further we can improve in the years to come, not just in our high school tennis career but in life.”
Wiese & Bravo put all that to work and defeated Nyak & Cho 6-3, 6-4 in the finials to claim the State title, and bring it back to Garden City High School.
“I think our chemistry and grit makes us a good team,” Wiese added. “We know where to be on the court when one of us gets pushed off the court, and we never give up fighting for every point. We really do treat each point like its match point.”
