Top-ranked Novak Djokovic of Serbia defeated Switzerland’s Roger Federer, 6-2, 6-1, on Friday at the World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi. Djokovic advances to the finals of the event where he will face Spain’s David Ferrer in Saturday’s final of the $250,000 winner-takes-all exhibition event. The fifth-ranked Ferrer upset his fellow countryman and the second-ranked Rafael Nadal, 6-3, 6-2, in the other semifinal match setting up his trip to the finals to meet Djokovic, winner of three Grand Slam titles in 2011.

The 24-year-old Serb, boating a 70-6 record in 2011, twice broke third-ranked Federer in the first set and ran off nine games in a row in a one-sided affair that lasted only 44 minutes.

"It is the perfect start to the season. I played great," Djokovic said. "It’s something that makes me very happy."
