Former world number one-ranked Caroline Wozniacki has advanced to the semifinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships after a 6-3, 7-5 win over Ana Ivanovic. Also in action at the Dubai Championships, former U.S. Open champ Samantha Stosur was knocked out of contention by current world’s number 14 Jelena Jankovic, 4-6, 2-6.

Wozniacki cruised through the first set and had to fight harder to take the second. She is the highest-seeded player in Dubai still in the draw after top-ranked Victoria Azarenka withdrew from the event yesterday. Last month, Azarenka knocked Wozniacki out of the top spot in the WTA rankings when she captured the 2012 Australian Open title. Wozniacki has yet to win a Grand Slam title in her career.

"You know, a lot of things could happen. I could become the president as well. I could become a billionaire by tomorrow if I win the lottery," said Wozniacki of her chances of regaining the number one spot atop the WTA rankings. She now faces against Julia Goerges who defeated Daniela Hantuchova, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, to advance to the semifinals.

"I’m happy with the win. It’s never easy. Against her, we always have tough matches," said Jankovic after her win over Stosur. “I think the key was my return. You know, she has one of the best, if not the best, serves in the women’s game. It’s never easy to return her serve."

Jankovic will now play fifth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska in the semifinals, after Radwanska advanced to the semifinals with a win over Sabine Lisicki of Germany in straight sets.
