Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro defeated Michael Llodra of France, 6-4, 6-4, in the Open 13 finals in Marseille, France, del Potro’s first title of the 2012 season.

"This is something special for me. I’m very glad to win this tournament in my first (appearance). I’m sorry I beat three French players in this tournament. I feel really happy to win here. I hope I can play again next year," said del Potro.

Llodra, last won in Marseille in 2010, was unable to hold his serve in each set and was not able to gain any break points or even chances against del Potro, who served him 11 aces. “He played really, really well today and I had no virtually no chances, except in the last game when he was 0-30 down,” Llodra said. “It was a great game from him, and for my part I was a bit more tired than in recent days.”

Llodra had a strong court game, however he was not able to overcome del Potro which allowed him to gain break points to win the first set. He fell behind in his last game of the match 0-30 on serve which gave fans a hope for the Frenchmen to come back. This would be a short-lived moment with del Potro quickly regaining two points and then won the next two to take the match.

“It’s been a good week for me, although it’s always frustrating to miss out,” said Llodra, who has five career singles titles and 23 in doubles. “I’m a bit disappointed, but that’s the way it goes.”
