American John Isner has joined the ranks of the world’s top 10 players atop the ATP World Rankings after beating world number one-ranked Novak Djokovic of Serbia in the semifinals of the 2012 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Calif. this past weekend. Born in Greensboro, N.C. and currently residing in Tampa, Fla., Isner cracked the top 10 for the first time in his career, despite losing to Switzerland’s Roger Federer in the finals at Indian Wells, Calif. on Sunday. Joining Isner in the top 10 is fellow American Mardy Fish who is currently ranked eighth.

Djokovic, winner at Indian Wells in 2011, sees his lead on Spain’s Rafael Nadal reduced, while Federer, who beat Isner in the finals to win the Indian Wells title, remains in third place behind Nadal. Argentina’s Juan Martin Del Potro drops two places after losing to Federer in the quarterfinals of the 2012 BNP Paribas Open.
