Germany’s Andrea Petkovic, currently ranked number 12 in the world, will be forced to miss the next three months due to an injured right ankle and torn ligaments, an injury suffered Thursday at the 2012 Porsche Grand Prix.

Petkovic was forced to retire in her second round match against world number one-ranked Victoria Azarenka of Belarus after her opening round 6-1, 6-4 win against fellow German Kristina Barrios. The 2012 Porsche Grand Prix was Petkovic’s first tournament since January, after being sidelined with a lower back injury.
