On his 25th birthday, Andy Murray of Great Britain defeated David Nalbandian of Argentina in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5, to advance to the third round of the 2012 Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, Italy. A 2011 semifinalist at the event, Murray took two hours and 37 minutes to capture the victory and is now 5-2 head to head against Nalbandian.
"I’m very happy to win, considering how the last few weeks have gone," said Murray. "When you haven’t hit that much, it’s not so comfortable. Hopefully I can go on from here."
Murray was playing his first match since a quarterfinal loss to Canadian Milos Raonic in Barcelona three weeks ago, having been forced out of Madrid with an injury. Murray advances to face Frenchman Richard Gasquet, a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Italy’s Paolo Lorenzi.
